About

Dr. Scott is a highly energetic professor in the Educational Sciences, Foundations and Research Department in the College of Education and Professional Studies.

During her tenure in the College of Education and Professional Studies she has written multiple grants through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education's Oklahoma Teacher Connection. The grants provided her the opportunity to work with high school students interested in becoming teachers and being successful in college.

Dr. Scott has a high passion for service learning and participating in STLR activities both inside and outside of the classroom. She develops opportunities for students to experience their education on a relevant level and reflect on how it may have transformed their thinking and future actions in their career as a teacher or Speech Language Pathologist.

Dr. Scott is also the student sponsor for Oklahoma Aspiring Educators Association and has served as a student sponsor with the American Democracy Project.

Dr. Scott is a strong supporter of UCO. All three of her children and many other relatives have attended UCO for their undergraduate degrees. UCO does an excellent job of preparing people for worthy careers.

Teaching Philosophy

Teachers save lives every day. It is important that teachers understand the importance of their role in the classroom. Teachers must first connect with their students through a professional relationship. Second, they need to embrace the role of family in their students' educational journey and that means all the way through high school. Third, teachers need to make learning active and relevant to the students. A growth mindset and creativity needs to be a major part of each instructional opportunity with an emphasis in critical thinking in order for students to become life long learners! Finally, teachers need to be a part of a support team, it does take a village to help children meet their potential, and it is always better to do go about this task with others than alone. Teachers save lives every day, I am constantly looking for that life to save!
