I've been teaching as an Adjunct Instructor for the Department of Sociology, Gerontology, and Substance Abuse Studies at UCO for over 18 years. Currently, I'm teaching Social Psychology and Social Problems. I'm also a wife, mother, and entrepreneur. My husband and I started an IT and Managed Services Company, LMRoss, Inc., over 20 years ago and haven't looked back.
The most important thing that I’ve learned in all the years of parenting, teaching, and building a business is that Bill Nye is correct. “Everyone you meet knows something you don’t.” I believe in compassionate activism, that you have to learn to listen and listen to learn. Actively listen. Everyone’s reality is different. To make yourself understood, you must first understand others. This self-reflective and humanistic approach to communication is how I strive to improve, in teaching, in business, in parenting, in marriage, and in other human relationships. It’s integral to critical thinking and empathy. This is what I am passionate about. I’m no lecturer, but rather a facilitator. Bringing a classroom together, even online, to discuss theories and ideas, personal experiences, historical and current events, research studies, and ethical quandaries, and to apply and question what we’ve learned, without fear and judgment, is exactly what classroom education is about. “Education is what happens when a small group of people comes together to understand something new.”
