About
Mark Johnson is a life-long actor and vocal musician, and teaches voice at the University of Central Oklahoma. Having taught in higher education since 1987, he previously served the University of Texas system.
Johnson most recently appeared as Lord Hastings in the Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park production of Richard III.
He has performed in New York and Washington DC (The White House), appeared in operatic and theatrical roles regionally throughout the US and worked on camera and in the studio in LA and Nashville. He can be seen in local TV commercials, and in the pilot episode of a new web series, Earth to Jessie (Psychiatrist), produced by UCO MT alum, Jessica Darnell, who currently works for Disney.
Former students have performed on Broadway, with the New York City Opera and on cruise ships and with touring companies around the world. Others have directed symphony orchestras, and several have earned advanced degrees and also teach at the college and university level. Still others are active in community theater and church music activities.
Active in community service, when not on stage or on the bench, Johnson directs the Chancel Choir at First Christian Church, Midwest City. He is an FAA certificated private pilot and member of the EAA “Young Eagles” program, introducing school-age youth to the wonders of flight. Formerly, he was a Mission Pilot with the USAF Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol) and with Angel Flight, providing charitable General Aviation air transportation to cancer patients.

Recent theatrical credits (selected): Midsummer Night’s Dream (Quince), Hamlet (Ghost/Gravedigger) and others, in four seasons and six productions with OK Shakes. Hairspray (Wilbur) Pollard Theater. Flipide: The Patti Page Story (Man One), Greg White's Front Page Productions. Grapes of Wrath (Camp Director), City Repertory Theater. Upcoming fall 2018 performances: TACTUS, a professional choral ensemble in OKC; Painted Sky Opera Amahl and the Night Visitors (Kaspar).
