Cheryl Bocanegra, Ph.D.
Education and Certifications
Cheryl Bocanegra, Ph.D., has a BM in Piano Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University. She attended University of North Texas, where she completed a Master in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Music Theory. Her area of specialization is in theories of rhythm, focusing on rhythmic entities and their relationships in music of the early 20th century. In addition to teaching and research in music theory, she has an active career as a collaborative pianist and composer.
I currently teach undergraduate courses in aural skills, and graduate courses in advanced aural skills and advanced analytical techniques.

In addition to music, I also have other artistic- and craft-oriented interests. I have a small pottery studio in my home where I make nature inspired pieces for the kitchen and home. I also take courses in watercolor painting. I have a lifelong love for design, and this extends to interiors and landscaping.
