Kyle Cohlmia was born and raised in Stillwater, OK. She attended the University of Kansas, graduating in 2006 with a BA in art history and Italian and a minor in English. Soon after graduation, she relocated to Denver, CO, working for the school and adult programs at the Denver Art Museum before deciding to pursue graduate school at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
In 2010, Cohlmia graduated from CU with an MA in Instruction and Curriculum and moved back to Oklahoma for a career opportunity at Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City to work as the director of the tutoring and writing centers. After five years at OSU, she decided to pursue her passion for the contemporary arts and was accepted as a fellow for the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition's Art Writing and Curatorial Fellowship. In 2015 she served as the Manager for Museum Services at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Gaylord-Pickens Museum.
Cohlmia was granted the opportunity to act as emerging curator for OVAC’s annual exhibit, Momentum, in 2016 and concurrently accepted the position as curator of exhibitions for the College of Fine Arts and Design at UCO where she currently works with local and national artists to exhibit at the Melton Gallery. When not collaborating with artists, Cohlmia loves to spend her time outdoors, with her adorable dog and cat and writing poetry for her blog, The Dusty Soul.
