AWARD-WINNING MUSICAL ‘FLIPSIDE: THE PATTI PAGE STORY’ RETURNS TO UCO
Metro-area audiences will get another opportunity to see the original musical honored by the Kennedy Center National Theater Festival as one of the best in the nation when “Flipside: The Patti Page Story,” returns to the University of Central Oklahoma for three special productions in May.
The performances will take place at 7:30 p.m., May 11 – 12 and 2 p.m., May 12 at UCO’s Mitchell Hall Theater.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing back ‘Flipside’ home,” said Greg White, director of UCO’s Broadway Tonight Series and both the writer and director of the show.
“Since the premiere of the show at Central last year, ‘Flipside’ has been very well received by many, which I couldn’t be more happy about. It’s exciting to bring the production back to where it all began,” he continued.
The production was recently recognized by the Kennedy Center at the Kennedy Center National Theater Festival, earning 18 national awards including outstanding musical, outstanding director of a musical (White), outstanding sound design (Sun Hee Kil, UCO Sound Designer/Engineer) and outstanding performance by an actress (Haley Jane Pierce, Central alumna) among various other national awards.
The Kennedy Center National Theater Festival is a national theater program involving approximately 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide, which has served as a catalyst in improving the quality of college theater in the United States. It is an incredible honor to be recognized at the festival.
“We are humbled and honored to be recognized by the Kennedy Center for our production of ‘Flipside.’ It just goes to show that Central’s music theatre division is doing great things and is nationally very competitive,” White said.
The UCO performances of “Flipside” are a part of the Oklahoma tour of the production, which is taking place during the whole month of May. The tour includes performances in Claremore, Miami, Chickasha, Muskogee and Edmond.
After the tour, White hopes that the production will continue to “live and breathe” and has aspirations for it to become an off-Broadway production.
Tickets are $28 for the evening performances and $25 for the matinee and can be purchased by calling the Mitchell Hall Theater Box Office at (405) 974-3375.
