Samantha Lay, a recent University of Central Oklahoma graduate from Muskogee, received the 2012-13 E.C. Hall Award from Central's Jackson College of Graduate Studies for her outstanding scholastic achievements while attending Central.

Named in honor of Central's first graduate college dean, the E.C. Hall Award is presented each year to the graduate student who achieves the highest academic record.

Lay graduated from Central with her bachelor's degree in speech pathology in spring 2010 and then earned a master's degree in speech pathology from the university in spring 2012.

“She distinguished herself by maintaining the highest level of conduct and performance, representing Central and the speech pathology program in the best possible manner,” said Scott McLaughlin, Ph D., professor of Special Services at Central and Lay’s academic adviser.

She maintained a 3.86 GPA in her undergraduate coursework and a 4.0 grade point average throughout her masters degree programs at Central.

As a graduate student, Lay served at Grace Living Center in Oklahoma City, J.D. McCarty, and Eisenhower Elementary in Norman. Recently Lay accepted employment with Norman Public Schools.

“It is fitting Samantha has earned the E.C. Hall Award because I believe she will carry forward the excellence this award recognizes,” said McLaughlin.
