The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) recently elected University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design Chairperson Ruki Ravikumar, M.F.A., to serve on its national board of directors.

AIGA is the oldest and largest professional membership organization for design with 67 chapters throughout the nation.

The organization provides global standards in design and brings together practitioners and patrons whose focus is the advancement of design as a respected craft and vital cultural force.

“AIGA has been a constant in my life since coming to the United States,” Ravikumar said.

“I found my present job and have met many amazing designers through AIGA.”

Members of the national board of directors for AIGA are elected into a three-year term and play a crucial role in determining the missions of AIGA.  They ensure that the organization continues to operate in the best interest of past, present and future members.

In addition to serving on the national board, Ravikumar will continue to serve as the president of the AIGA Oklahoma chapter, a position she has held for the past year.

“AIGA helps me connect Central students to the design industry,” Ravikumar explained.

“It is such an honor to be elected to serve on the AIGA national board.”
