The University of Central Oklahoma’s Broadway Tonight Series will kick off its 16th season with Liz Callaway and the Young Voices of Edmond at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23-24 at Mitchell Hall Theater, located on campus.

Callaway won acclaim for her five-year stint on Broadway as Grizabella in “Cats” and received a Tony Award-nomination for her performance in “Baby.”  Amongst numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway roles, Callaway has also received a Drama Desk-nomination for her performance in “The Spitfire Grill.”

Callaway received national recognition as the voice of Anastasia in the animated feature “Anastasia” and has been the singing voice of other title characters in Disney movies, including “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin and the King of the Thieves.”

As a soloist, Callaway has recorded four albums and shared the stage with Stevie Wonder and Dionne Warwick.

As an actress, Callaway received an Emmy Award for hosting, “Ready to Go,” a children’s program on CBS.

“Callaway has such a bright, clear Broadway sound, a very down to earth accessible personality and an angelic voice,” said Greg White, Ph.D, director of UCO’s Broadway Tonight Series.

“Our metro community is going to love her,” White continued.

Callaway will be performing a repertoire of Broadway classics and Disney favorites alongside Young Voices of Edmond, a choral group consisting of more than 100 children, grades K-12.

“Broadway Tonight’s collaboration with the Young Voices of Edmond continues to be an incredible fit for our mission of outreach to the community and is such an exciting opportunity for the children and their families,” White added.

The Young Voices of Edmond is organized and directed by Edmond’s 2013 Teacher of the Year Angela McKenna.

Now in its fourth year, the Young Voices of Edmond have performed alongside Broadway star and voice of “Pocahontas” Judy Kuhn, and Broadway star and voice of “The Little Mermaid” Jodi Benson.

Following Saturday’s evening performance, a reception will be held offering audience members the chance to meet Callaway and the Young Voices of Edmond.
