The Wellness Center at the University of Central Oklahoma will host an IPC Powerlifting Competition on 10:30 a.m. to noon, Oct. 6, one of the final opportunities for athletes to qualify for the 2014 World Championships in Dubai next April.

Eleven athletes will compete at the event. Five have already qualified and will attempt to move up in ranking for higher seeding. The remaining six competitors have yet to qualify.

“The United States has already qualified eight athletes for the World Championships, making this the largest team that will have ever competed,” said Kim Stuck, U.S. Paralympic Powerlifting coordinator.

“Our remaining focus is getting the other six athletes qualified at this upcoming event.”

The five athletes that have already qualified include Jacob Schrom, Mary Stack, Trevor Bunch, Joseph Wittcamp and Bryce Segura.

The six that will compete for a spot in the World Championships are Jacob Stearns, John Supon, Grebil Copp, David Page, Christopher Nowak and Konstantinos Xigacos.

The competition is open to the public.
