The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) will kick off the 2013 fall “LiveLink” concert series with a performance featuring various student bands at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8 at the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, 329 E. Sheridan Ave. in downtown Oklahoma City.

The “LiveLink” concerts feature ACM@UCO student bands performing original music students have created spanning a variety of genres including rock, indie rock, hip hop, country and folk among other genres.  The concerts are free and open to the public.

“The ‘LiveLink’ concert series provides our students with a platform to share their original music with the Oklahoma City metro community,” said Derek Brown, ACM@UCO business development manager and coordinator of the concert series.

“I love the camaraderie ‘LiveLink’ brings to the student body.  It’s a great chance for students to hear what music their peers are making and see it performed live.”

Attendees can also purchase ACM@UCO merchandise and get other free promotional items.

The next concerts in the 2013 “LiveLink” series are at 7 p.m., Nov. 22 and Dec. 6.

The ACM@UCO opened its doors to its first class of students in August 2009 on one floor of the Oklahoma Hardware Building in Bricktown on Flaming Lips Alley.  Since then, the program has grown to fill three floors of the building and the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, also located in Bricktown.

Based on the successful model from the original ACM in England, the ACM@UCO is an innovative music program unlike any other in the U.S., offering an industry-based, “real world” educational experience for those interested in a career in contemporary music.

From its location in downtown Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district, the ACM@UCO offers two-year associate degree programs in bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, music business, music production and vocals, with the option to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Technology degree.
