UCO Wellness Center Offers Community Opportunities to Get Fit This Fall with Series of Classes

The University of Central Oklahoma Wellness Center will offer a variety of instructional fitness programs to the community beginning in September. Instructional programs are non-credit fitness classes that provide personal enrichment, training and skill building.

The programs are taught by certified instructors to provide opportunities to Central’s students, faculty and staff and members of the Edmond community to engage in unique fitness programs.

This fall’s classes include:

  • Krav Maga, 7:15-9:15 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 8-Oct. 13, emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques and realistic training scenarios that will strengthen your body, sharpen your mind and transform your life.
  • S.A.S. (Strengthen, Affirm and Stretch Class), 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 8-29, provides a positive environment to strengthen every major muscle group and help you connect the mind and body via affirmations, awareness and stretching.
  • Bellydancing, 5-6 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 14-Oct. 5, focuses on developing correct posture alignment, flexibility, arm positions and paths, fundamental shimmies, basic hip accents, introductory undulations, and easy to follow steps and combinations.
  • Eras of Dance: Hip-hop from Yesterday and Today, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 21-Oct. 12, takes a trip through time to master hip-hop dancing from various eras.

“We want to give everyone involved with Central and the surrounding community the opportunity to achieve personal health and fitness from different experiences,” said Shea McMullin-Ware, health and fitness specialist.

“Instructional fitness classes provide the opportunity to engage in unique fitness programs that provide an encouraging and motivating atmosphere.” 

The deadline to sign up for Krav Maga and S.A.S. are Sept. 5. Registration for Bellydancing is Sept. 11 and the final day to sign up for Eras of Dance is Sept. 18.

All fitness levels are encouraged to participate in each instructional program. To register, visit and select “Instructional Programs.” Pre-registration is required for all instructional programs. Fees vary based on the class.
