UCO PROFESSOR NAMED PRESIDENT OF CHINESE HISTORIAN SOCIETY

Xiaobing Li, Ph.D., professor of history at the University of Central Oklahoma, was recently elected as president of Chinese Historians in the United States (CHUS), an affiliated society of the American Historical Association and the Association of Asian Studies.

“As the 2015-17 CHUS president, I will continue the tradition of serving members, promoting historical scholarship and academic exchange and developing CHUS into a vibrant academic community,“ Li said.

Li, who joined Central’s faculty in 1993, currently serves as the director of the Western Pacific Institute and director of the Confucius Classroom Project and served as the chair of the Department of History and Geography from 2009 to 2014.

“Professor Bing Li is a prolific scholar of modern Chinese military history and history of the Cold War. We are so pleased that he will represent the University of Central Oklahoma as president of the Chinese Historians in the United States. He is an asset to the state of Oklahoma,” said Patricia Loughlin, Ph.D., chair of the Department of History and Geography.

Li is the only member of CHUS from an Oklahoma institution.

“It’s going to be part of my plan that we should recruit some new members from our state,” Li said.
