The University of Central Oklahoma’s UCentral Media will broadcast “Change for Hope,” its first live fundraising event, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 23 on Cox Cable channel 125. Proceeds from the four-hour event will benefit Special Care Inc. and WINGS: A Special Needs Community Inc.

The fundraising goal for the event is $15,580, representing one dollar for every student on the UCO campus this spring. In an effort to reach this goal, UCentral has placed collection buckets at Citizen’s Bank of Edmond, located at 32 N. Broadway.

Donation jars are also located around Central’s campus at the UCentral News Desk, in Hamilton Field House and in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in Room 422, Nigh University Center.

During the event, UCentral will broadcast continuous coverage of their fundraising efforts, as well as a few entertainment pieces throughout the show.

“From an educational standpoint, students will be gaining experience hosting a live event, which is experience that most universities do not offer,” said Desiree Hill, a mass communication instructor and the faculty advisor for the event.

Following the broadcast, UCentral will present checks to Special Care and WINGS to aid in the purchase of needed supplies for each organization.

“No matter how much we raise, we know that we have reached out and helped two wonderful organizations within our community. It isn’t about us; it’s about them. They are the real heroes, and we are just lending a helping hand,” said Scott Martin, student coordinator for the event.
