UCO STUDENT NAMED NATIONAL RADIO SHOW SCHOLAR

University of Central Oklahoma student Albert Hellebuick, a junior professional media major from Oklahoma City, recently attended the 2016 Radio Show, a National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) industry conference for radio professionals, Sept. 21-23 in Nashville, Tennessee as a member of the second class of the Radio Show Student Scholars Program.

The Radio Show Student Scholars Program guides and prepares students for successful careers in the radio industry, providing students with scholarships  to attend the conference, which includes opportunities like a career fair, conference orientation, networking opportunities, entertainment events and educational sessions.

Hellebuick currently works as a morning show producer at Wild 104.9 FM (KWLD) and plans to continue in the radio industry following graduation.

“Albert has greatly improved over the last two years as a student in our professional media program, specifically in my radio courses,” said David Nelson, a professor of mass communication.

“As a result, he was the first person that came to mind when the NAB scholarship committee began accepting applications nationwide for the NAB radio conference in Tennessee. The conference has provided Albert with a great opportunity to learn more about the radio industry from long-time professionals and to meet young and talented future radio professionals who share the same passion for radio as he does.”

Professional media students at UCO pursue careers in television and radio broadcasting, documentary film, journalism and online media and receive a comprehensive look into the radio profession through coursework and real-life experience at Central’s low-power station, UCentral Radio 99.3 FM (KZUC).

Students are also trained on the principles of radio programming, station imaging and on-air presentation, learning to plan, prepare and develop their own programming.
