UCO Professor Appointed to Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Planning Council

Gov. Mary Fallin has appointed University of Central Oklahoma Associate Professor Mark Maddy, Ed.D., to the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, an independent agency that assists a diverse group of people with mental or physical impairments.

The council is composed of 28 volunteer members, all appointed by the governor, who plan and implement service or support programs, fund research, train advocates and educate policymakers, so people with developmental disabilities can live, work, play and learn in the communities of their choice.

James Machell, Ph.D., dean of the UCO College of Education and Professional Studies, is pleased with the appointment.

“Dr. Maddy’s great knowledge and experience in the area will enable him to contribute at a high level to the work of this important policy arm of our state government,” Machell said.

Maddy, who suffered a spinal cord injury at the age of 20, said he is pleased to continue spreading knowledge and awareness for individuals who have different abilities. The Indiana native also is a member of the Edmond Public Transportation Committee, advocating for transit needs for those with developmental disabilities.

Maddy, an associate professor in UCO’s Department of Educational Sciences, Foundations and Research, joined Central in 2009. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Phillips University, a master’s from University of Texas at Brownsville and a doctorate from Fielding Graduate University.
