Governor Appoints UCO Professor to SoonerStart Interagency Coordinating Council

Gov. Mary Fallin has appointed University of Central Oklahoma professor Lori Beasley, Ed.D., to the SoonerStart Interagency Coordinating Council, which advises and assists the State Department of Education in planning family-centered services to help infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities.

James Machell, dean of the UCO College of Education and Professional Studies, said Beasley’s background in early childhood education makes her an excellent selection for the council.

“Dr. Beasley’s deep expertise in the area of child and family development and passion for helping families will enable her to make important contributions to this work,” Machell said.

Beasley, a professor in UCO’s Department of Human Environmental Sciences, joined Central as a faculty member in 1996. She teaches courses that focus on the development of children, adolescents and middle childhood, as well as parent education and family life education.

A native of Tulsa, Beasley has served in key roles for organizations that include the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Southern Early Childhood Association, Early Childhood Association of Oklahoma and Advocates for Children and Families.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in family relations and child development from Oklahoma State University (OSU), a master’s in community college education from UCO and a doctorate in early childhood education from OSU.
