UCO Again Named One of The Nation’s ‘Great Colleges to Work For’

The University of Central Oklahoma has been recognized as a Great Colleges to Work For, according to a new survey from The Great Colleges to Work For program. Central is the only public institution in the state to have received this designation.

Central joins Baylor University, Texas Christian University and University of Southern California on the list of universities named as a “2019 Great College to Work For,” viewed as one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. Within the survey’s 12-year history, this is the 11th year in which Central has been named to the list, with past recognitions in 2008 and 2010-18.

The university ranks among the best nationally in five of the survey’s 12 categories:

  • Facilities, Workspace and Security – Facilities meet employee’s needs and the campus looks good;
  • Professional/Career Development Programs – Employees are given the opportunity to develop skills and understand requirements to advance in their careers;
  • Teaching Environment – Faculty members say the institution recognizes innovative and high-quality teaching;
  • Tenure Clarity and Process – Requirements for tenure are clear, according to faculty members; and,
  • Work/Life Balance – Policies give employees the flexibility to manage their personal lives.

“I’m inspired each day by our community of faculty and staff. They are innovative and future focused. And they are committed to helping our students learn each and every day. They make Central a great place to work,” said UCO President Patti Neuhold-Ravikumar.

Results were determined through a direct survey of faculty and staff at universities and colleges throughout the county.

The “2019 Great Colleges to Work For” list is based on responses of individuals at 236 institutions: 152 four-year colleges and universities, and 84 two-year colleges, with 85 institutions making the final list. All accredited institutions in the U.S. with an enrollment of at least 500 students were invited to participate at no cost.

Central’s peer group in this poll included universities and colleges that have 10,000 or more students. UCO has more than 3,000 full- and part-time employees and is one of Edmond’s largest employers.
