UCO School of Design Students Win National ADDY Awards

The University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Design recently won two National American Advertising Federation Student ADDY awards, which honor the best advertising and graphic design of 2021. Central is the only college or university in Oklahoma to win at the national level.

Nhi Pham, a spring 2021 design graduate from Vietnam, won a gold ADDY in the packaging category for her “Folia” perfume packaging. Kirstie Arnold, also a spring 2021 design graduate from Yukon, Oklahoma, won a silver ADDY in the packaging category for “Love & Death” perfume packaging.

“We could not be prouder of our design students’ impressive showing at this year’s ADDY Awards,” said Amy Johnson, M.F.A., Central professor of design and school director. “Their continued high achievement during the pandemic is a testament to their tenacity and drive.”

The ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest competition for both student and professional work, attracting more than 40,000 entries every year in local competitions throughout the nation. The format is a three-tier, national competition that begins at the local level.

Central’s national wins capped off another impressive year for the School of Design. Central students brought home 41 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze awards at the 2021 Oklahoma City ADDY awards. The university also won awards in the special categories Best of University, Special Judges Award, Best of Show and the “Braggy” award, given to the university with the most student winners.

The local ADDY winners moved forward to compete in the District 10 competition, where Central picked up four gold, four silver and 12 bronze awards and a Best of Show win for Pham.

The UCO School of Design is the only NASAD-accredited design school in Oklahoma. For more information, visit
