UCO Earns ‘Military Friendly’ Gold Designation
The University of Central Oklahoma has received national recognition for its commitment to military-connected students, according to Viqtory Media’s just-released 2022-23 Military Friendly Schools list. Central was named a gold-level Military Friendly School in the category of public universities with more than 10,000 students.
Institutions earning this designation are evaluated based on academics, student retention, campus resources, flexibility, graduation rates, tuition assistance and job placement for military-connected students.
“This recognition demonstrates UCO’s exceptional programs and services and its commitment to increase support for Oklahoma’s veterans and military-connected students,” said Tom Mcshane, director of veteran support services at UCO.
The 2022-23 Military Friendly Schools list aims to help military members and their families evaluate and select the best college, university or trade school to receive the education, training and student support needed to earn a degree.
Central offers several resources for military-connected students through the Veterans Higher Education Resources Office (VetHERO). The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program is designed to help U.S. military veterans enter and succeed in higher education. The Serving America’s Leaders Using Transformative Education (SALUTE) program provides college retention and completion services to UCO military-connected, first-generation students or those qualifying based on federal income levels. These resources aid military-connected students in their academic, financial, physical and social needs.
