UCO Ranked Among Top Universities for Software Engineering Program

The University of Central Oklahoma is ranked as a top institution for its Bachelor of Science in software engineering. The program recently received two national rankings for its overall excellence and affordability.

BestAccreditedColleges.org, an online resource for higher education rankings, recognized Central as a top institution for its software engineering program’s overall quality, placing it 24 out of 31.

Additionally, UniversityHQ, an online resource for prospective college students, ranked Central 71 out of 100 as most affordable for its software engineering program.

Central is the only higher education institution in the state recognized on both lists. 

BestAccreditedColleges.org and UniversityHQ ranked the program in areas based on affordability, admission rate, retention rate, graduation rate, graduating salary, programs offered, loan default rate, reputation and expert opinion, using current data from the U.S. Department of Education.

“Receiving national rankings for our software engineering program was a surprise,” said Gang Qian, Ph.D., chairperson and professor in the Department of Computer Science at Central. 

“We have long believed that one of our core competitive strengths compared to our peers is that we offer high-quality programs at a reasonable cost to our students. The computer science faculty will continue their efforts in bringing more cost-effective, affordable programs that align with the information technology industry’s needs to our students and other stakeholders.”

The software engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. The program provides students a comprehensive study of the principles and tools for design, development and maintenance of software as an engineering product.
