UCO Earns Highest Ever Regional University Ranking in US News & World Report’s ‘Best Colleges’ 2022-23 List; Among Top 30 Public Universities in the West

The University of Central Oklahoma earned its highest ranking on the 2022-23 Best Colleges list from U.S. News & World Report, since originally being ranked in 2011.

Central moved up 11 spots from the prior year to claim No. 60 in the “Regional Universities West” category, which includes both public and private institutions. This marks Central’s best ranking ever on that list.

UCO also ranked No. 29 in the “Top Public Schools: Regional Universities – West” category, the highest ranked public Oklahoma university on the list—up from No. 34 last year.

Additionally, the university ranked No. 86 in the “Top Performers in Social Mobility: Regional Universities – West” category.

U.S. News & World Report releases its list of Best Colleges annually. Regional universities are divided into four categories: North, South, Midwest and West and are defined as universities that offer “a full range of undergraduate programs and some master’s programs but few doctoral programs.”

According to U.S News & Report, rankings for the Best Colleges list are determined based on key indicators, gathered using a combination of the institution’s responses to the U.S. News & World Report statistical survey, information from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics and information gathered in assessments from peer institutions. These key indicators include graduate and retention rates for students, undergraduate academic reputation, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving rates.

With strong connections throughout the Oklahoma City metro, UCO is dedicated to developing in students the confidence to succeed through transformative learning experiences. Founded in 1890, Central connects its students to unmatched value found in 119 undergraduate areas of study and 81 graduate programs from its main campus in Edmond and facilities throughout the metro area. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
