UCO SENIOR, EDMOND NATIVE WINS MISS OKLAHOMA PAGEANT

Emoly West, University of Central Oklahoma senior and Miss Edmond LibertyFest, was crowned Miss Oklahoma 2010 during the annual pageant held June 12 in the Mabee Center at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.

West, an Edmond native and senior Dance major at Central, will represent Oklahoma during the Miss America pageant in January in Las Vegas.

After winning, West said she plans to share Oklahoma's warm and welcoming values with the country, as well as promoting her platform of leadership and character development with Character First, an organization dedicated to helping people see the value of good character so they may build better workplaces and communities.

"Emoly is a great representation of what it means to 'live Central' here at the University of Central Oklahoma. She is a great leader and friend, and is committed to giving back to the community," said Keelee Bright, coordinator for Central's Campus Activities and Events.

In addition to her crown, West also won two preliminary competitions for her ballet en pointe performance in the talent competition and the swimsuit competition.

Other Central students who received awards during the pageant include Natasha Alikhani (Miss Bricktown OKC) for Non-Finalist Talent Winner, Ashley Baumgartner (Miss Tulsa State Fair) for Top 15 Finalist, Julie Christian (Miss UCO) for Rookie of the Year Outstanding Interview Award, and Taylor Upson (Miss Collinsville) for Top 10 Finalist and the Esther Scholarship.

"All of our students who participated in this year's Miss Oklahoma pageant did a great job, and we are very proud of their hard work and success as well," added Bright.
