University of Central Oklahoma President W. Roger Webb today announced that A. DeWade Langley, Ed.D., director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, will join Central as the chair and director of the university's new School of Criminal Justice.

"DeWade Langley has a distinguished career in law enforcement at all levels. This experience means he is well prepared both professionally and academically to lead this newly designed program," said Webb.

"His involvement and leadership will bring national acclaim to our Criminal Justice program, which further raises the value of a Central degree for our students."

Central has long offered a program in Criminal Justice through the Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice and Substance Abuse Studies in its College of Liberal Arts. The creation of the new School of Criminal Justice will strengthen the existing program, and, building on the momentum of Central's nationally-regarded Forensic Science Institute, further establish Central as a leading institution for crime-fighting education.

The new school offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice as well as a Master's degree in Criminal Justice Management and Administration. A minor in Criminal Justice is also available to students.

"We are very excited that Dr. Langley will be joining our outstanding Criminal Justice faculty," said Dr. Pamela Washington, dean of Central's College of Liberal Arts.

"Central has a long and celebrated reputation for providing highly qualified graduates for a multitude of criminal justice professions in our state, and Dr. Langley's influence will enhance that reputation."

Students will begin taking classes in the new school this fall, working closely with Department of Sociology and Substance Abuse Studies for some courses.
